The bed, sofas, etc. all have waterproof padding on them. Because my husband’s ,dementia, is different from ,Alzheimer’s, he does not act in the way you describe. He does, however, ,refuse, to admit that he needs to change his depends on a regular schedule rather than waiting until his shorts are wet and, usually, the sheet where he was sitting.

And I mean if you are the caregiver of someone with ,dementia, who ,refuses, to participate in one or more aspects of self care, please know that your problem is nearly universal. Sometimes it helps to know what you’re up against, and to remind yourself that this behavior is directly linked to the area of the brain being affected by the disease.

The reasons for this can include: not being able to react quickly enough to the sensation of needing to use the toilet. failing to get to the toilet in time – for example, because of mobility problems. not being able to tell someone that they need to go to the toilet because of problems communicating.
